A History of Excellence
Salim El-Tahch addresses customers as "my friend" and means it. His falafel sandwitch is friendly too: it might be the snappy tahini, mixed generously with garlic and lemon; or the way the pita runneth over, requiring the eater to gradually tear the foil away, rather than removing it at the start. Or it might be both, plus the good vibes pervade Salim's.

"The best takout food in Western Pennsylvania?" asked Chipper Monk of Highland Park, "No doubt about it, Salim's Mid Eastern on Centre Ave, Oakland, has the very finest anywhere. Salim makes everything himself, using fresh ingredients and everything is made fresh daily. This includes many vegetarian specialties, too, lighter and refreshing in hot weather. Spinach pies are just fine served coldm as are grape leaves stuffed with seasoned rice (or meat), meat pies, and cheese pies. Hummus and baba ghanouge are the best anywhere and fresh pita bread or flat bread is available in white or while wheat."
